Eros, Wendy
Country: Japan
Project #: C0534
Biography: Wendy is working as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher in Japan. She serves at three locations (two churches and one school) in Nagoya through teaching English, friendship evangelism, and helping with various ministries and outreach programs.
Background: Wendy was born in Ontario and lived in many places across Canada while growing up because her father worked for the army. She learned about God in school as they repeated the Lord’s Prayer and set up nativity scenes at Christmas time. But her family didn’t go to church so she had little exposure to the gospel.
Wendy accepted Christ in December 1988. She was working in Sardis, British Columbia and was invited to church by a co-worker. She attended church for a while and soon after accepting Christ, Wendy was baptized. By this time, Wendy had two young sons Trevor and Tyler.
Eventually Wendy began working as the Youth Pastors’ assistant at Central Heights MB Church and it was when she went on a mission trip to Italy in 2005 that Wendy felt that God was calling her to missions. But she had no idea what this would look like or where she would go.
While working in the church office, Wendy would often put postings on the church bulletin board. One day Wendy put up a posting to contact MB Mission about an ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching position in Japan. She didn’t pay any attention to it. Although she had hosted Japanese students before and had been gone to Japan the year before for a wedding. Wendy was not interested in living or working in Japan.
But five months later, as Wendy walked out of her office, she saw the entire bulletin board lit up with this posting about an ESL teaching position in Japan. The whole bulletin board was flashing black and white! Wendy immediately went back into her office and called MB Mission about the teaching position. She applied for the position with MB Mission at the end of April and was on a plane to Japan by August.
Wendy has now spent a number of years as a missionary in Japan. She feels like she belongs in Japan and that Japan is her home. She wants her students to see Jesus through the work that she is doing and her dream is that many Japanese people will come to know Jesus.
