Biography: S and N are part of a church planting team in a restricted access country. The vision of their team is to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ through planting churches and mobilizing long and short-term missions. Their first term will be spent learning the language and culture, planning mission activity, and developing team relationships and roles.

Background: N grew up in a Catholic home in northern Ontario. As she got older, she started to search for fulfillment and satisfaction in other religions. For a few years, N began to practice Islam and started to get deeper into this religion. Eventually N came to a point where she felt that she had to choose between either Islam or Christianity. Around this time, N had a dream where Jesus spoke to her from the cross. After this, God began to show her that Jesus was the true way and eventually she chose to follow Him.

S grew up in a Christian home in Winnipeg, where his father was a camp director. S worked in the camp as a counselor and also helped out by doing some training for the camp counselors. When S graduated, he went to university and studied psychology and is now close to getting his doctorate in clinical psychology.

S has always dreamed of having a retreat centre. When he was young, he wanted to have an art retreat centre and as he got older, he dreamed of having a psychology retreat centre. The type of retreat centre often changed, but there was still always the idea of having a retreat centre. God has used this dream to lead S and N to the mission field. They had begun thinking about having a ministry retreat centre, and then about the possibility of a missionary retreat centre. They realized that to do this it would be important to have some mission experience so they started to go on some short term mission trips.

During this time, S and N also began to learn more about prayer and listening to God. Through this, they felt God calling them to step out in faith and serve Him overseas. They heard about MB Mission and were attracted by the emphasis on listening to God. They decided to apply to MB Mission and were invited to attend Spring Adventure. During the week of Spring Adventure, they had the opportunity to interact with MB Mission staff and hear the MB Mission Lead Team's heart and vision for ministry.

Now S and N have completed missionary training and are planning on serving with a long term church planting team in a restricted access country. Their desire is that prayer would be at the centre of their ministry. They love to intercede on behalf of others and to spend time listening to God. Their vision is to see people healed and discipled through prayer and close relationship with Jesus. They want to see groups worshiping and interceding in community with passion, enjoying the presence of the Lord.

Prayer Requests:

  • A continued growth in love for the local people
  • Sensitivity to the guidance of the Holy Spirit
  • A deep hunger for prayer and scripture
  • That God would raise up more intercessors for this mission
  • For God's help as they learn the local language and culture
