Change in Attitude
Lorena* slowly pulled up and parked her car near the school. As she sat and waited for her child to come out of class, suddenly someone came from behind and rear-ended her car!
Usually Lorena would have reacted rudely. Her response would have been to jump out of the car and start yelling at the person who rear-ended her. But this time, Lorena sat and paused for a moment. She asked Jesus, “What do You want me to do?”
Lorena got out and took a look at her car. Then she went around to the man that had bumped into her car. He was expecting an onslaught of insults and rage. But this was not the response that he received from Lorena. Instead, she told him, “It’s okay. It doesn’t look like the car is damaged. I just wanted to let you know that I’m okay with this.”
When Lorena got back into her car, she was amazed by how she had reacted. Normally she would not have been able to control her emotions and she would have erupted in anger.
But Lorena had started attending a Bible study that is led by Joan Godard, a missionary serving with MB Mission in Guadalajara, Mexico. Lorena was learning about listening to God in prayer and putting into practice what He says. She was amazed that Jesus had directed her and told her what to do; to calmly reassure the man who had rear-ended her car that it was okay.
Praise God that His Word has taken root in Lorena’s heart and that He has been transforming her thoughts and attitude. Pray that she will continue to fix her eyes on Jesus and be obedient to Him in every situation.
Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. – James 1:19-21
