God Hears

Nan* is a new Christian living in a Buddhism-saturated culture. She lives in Thailand and each day she comes face to face with her old beliefs as she interacts with neighbors and friends who worship idols.

Nan used to worship these same idols, but her life changed when a tsunami swept over and completely devastated the island where she lived. She lost everything. Her home was destroyed and her husband was killed in the tsunami. Nan was a widow and she was homeless.

But God came to the rescue and provided for Nan in her time of need and desperation. Through an MB Mission team that came to her island, God provided a new home for Nan. As Nan interacted with missionaries over time, she came to know Jesus and to believe that He is the true God.

Nan no longer worships the idols that her Thai friends and neighbors worship; she belongs to Jesus. As a new Christian, Nan’s views and mindset have been changing and God has been teaching her about His character. Recently God showed Nan that He is a God hears her prayers and cares about her needs.

Nan had been trying to sell her house for a long time but it seemed like no one wanted to buy it. God had provided this house for her after the tsunami, but now she needed to sell it so that she could move to the neighboring island of Phuket. Nan wanted to go live in the city of Phuket with her daughter who was sick with AIDS.

One day Nan received a visit from MB Mission church planter Judy Griffioen and an ACTION team that was serving in Thailand. As they visited with Nan, they learned about her desire to move to Phuket to be with her daughter, and her struggle to sell her house. The team came around Nan and prayed with her that her house would sell.

After a time of prayer, Carmen, an ACTION participant, said to Nan, “Please phone us when your house sells because I know that God is going to sell your house for you.”

Just one week later, the team received a phone call from Nan. She had sold her house and was moving to Phuket! Judy and the ACTION team were astonished by how quickly God answered their prayers for Nan – they hadn’t been expecting such a fast response!

As a new believer with much to learn about God, the selling of Nan’s house was confirmation to her that God hears her prayers and is faithful to respond. God worked in this situation to meet the needs of Nan so that she was able to move to Phuket to support her daughter. Praise God for His provision and for His willingness to meet the needs of His people.
