Growth amidst Persecution

It is incredibly difficult to be a Christian in North Africa. Believers face terrible persecution if it is discovered that they have chosen to follow Jesus. There are often violent consequences and Christians experience rejection from their families.

But in spite of the persecution that is taking place in North Africa, the church is experiencing growth as people hear the good news and choose to place their hope in Jesus Christ.

MB Mission’s Oasis Team reaches out to Arabic speaking people around the world through evangelistic television programs, discipleship material and leadership training conferences. Many North African people are coming to know the Lord through these ministries and God is building His church in this area of the world.

The Oasis Team resources and serves many house churches in North Africa and they recently received news that one house church has grown to 18 people! Because of this growth, they can no longer meet in their current location and this church has decided to multiply by forming two groups. The pastor of this church has been discipling a young man so that he can lead the second group.

It is important to find a safe location for the second group to meet as a church community without drawing the attention of those who are opposed to Jesus. Pray that a meeting place will be found for this new church, and pray for the leaders of these two churches. Praise God that many people are being drawn from darkness into the light and pray for strength and perseverance for these new believers in the midst of persecution.

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. – 1 Peter 4:12-14
