In the Right Place

The smell of death was in the air as they approached the building. The team entered and was taken to a room where there were men laying all over who were suffering from many different diseases.

James* was on a Grade 12 mission trip to India and their team was visiting a Home for the Dying and Destitute. As James asked God what he should do in this situation, he felt Jesus saying to him, “James, if I was anywhere right now I’d be right where you are.”

So James asked one of the helpers what he could do to help the people in the Home. The helper told him, “They don’t get a lot of human interaction, especially from foreigners. Could they just touch you?”

James was filled with God’s peace as he allowed the men to put their hands on him and touch him. God assured him that he should not be afraid of this, and it was during this time that James fell in love with people in a deeper way and especially with the poor. James felt his first call to missions while on this trip.

When he returned home to Canada, he told people that he would love to go back and serve in India. He participated in many other mission trips in different countries after this experience, and now James is going back to India as a long term missionary on a church planting team.

James’ hope for the country of India is that each person will become a passionate, faithful follower of Jesus and that one day India will send out missionaries to the surrounding nations.

Praise God for how He has led and prepared James to serve overseas. Pray that James will continue to grow deeper in his relationship with Jesus every day. Pray also that many people in India will come to know Jesus and will choose to place their hope in Him.

“All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before Him, for dominion belongs to the LORD and He rules over the nations.” - Psalm 22:27-28
