Serving in Japan
Wendy had hosted Japanese students in her home before. And she had even been to Japan for a wedding. But she was not interested in living or working in Japan until God made it clear that this was where He was calling her.
Wendy Eros knew that God was leading her to become a missionary but was unsure of where or when this would be. While working in the Central Heights Church office, Wendy would often put postings on the bulletin board. One day Wendy put up a posting about an ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching position in Japan with MB Mission. She didn’t pay any attention to it since she had no desire to serve in Japan.
But five months later, Wendy walked out of her office and saw the entire bulletin board lit up with this posting about an ESL teaching position in Japan. The whole bulletin board was flashing black and white! Wendy immediately went back into her office and called MB Mission about the teaching position. She applied for the position with MB Mission at the end of April and was on a plane to Japan by August!
When she first arrived, Wendy was overwhelmed by the heat and humidity of summer in Japan. She struggled as she had no idea about how to get anywhere from her apartment. Wendy realized that God was putting her in a position where she had to totally rely on Him. And after the first few days, she felt like she fit in and belonged in Japan!
Wendy has now spent three years as a missionary in Japan and considers Japan to be her home. She has 200 ESL students and was teaching at three schools, two churches, and one private home. Last year, Wendy came back to Canada to participate in MB Mission’s Missionary Training and Equiping (MTE) and she is now raising prayer and financial support as she prepares to return to Japan.
Wendy is hoping to learn more Japanese so that she can convey Jesus’ love for the Japanese people in a way that they will understand and be willing to open their hearts to Him. She wants her students to see Jesus through the work that she is doing and her dream is that many Japanese people will come to know Jesus.
Pray that God will give Wendy the ability to absorb more of the language through the Japanese class that she is currently taking in university. Pray for her students in Japan – that God will bring to their minds the times that Wendy shared the good news with them and showed them the love of Christ.
“For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, And as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up, So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise To spring up before all the nations.” – Isaiah 61:11
