Standing Firm
The only schooling that Abasi* had been allowed was to study the Koran. His father was a Muslim leader so this was very important to him. Abasi worked hard and studied the Koran extensively in the Arabic language.
Abasi lives in a village called N’Dorola in Burkina Faso. A church has been planted in this village by MB Mission workers Phil & Carol Bergen, who are involved in Bible translation, leadership training, and church planting in Burkina Faso.
Samuel and his family attend this church and each week they walked past Abasi’s courtyard on their way to church. One day, Abasi told Samuel that he wanted to come to church with him. Samuel thought that he was joking!
But Abasi wasn’t joking. He was interested in learning about Jesus because of the love that he sensed as he saw Samuel’s family walking to church every Sunday.
Now Abasi has chosen to follow Jesus and he was baptized on Easter Sunday! Praise God! Abasi comes from a family that is full of Muslim religious leaders, so pray that he will be able to stand firm in his faith. Pray that his trust in Jesus will grow and that he will become a strong, bold leader in the church. Pray also that more members of Abasi’s family will come to know Jesus through his testimony.
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
