C0596 Bon Berger Medical Clinic
Country: DR Congo
Project #: C0596
Needed: $88,200 (USD)
Bon Berger is a grassroots medical clinic that was started by two local Christian doctors with the vision of reaching the poorest of the poor in Kinshasa. They serve a community of over 100,000 people in one of the poorest slums. Because these families struggle to afford the costs of health care, they are often provided with initial care for free.
The mission of Bon Berger is social, as it involves medical care and social development, yet their motive is evangelical. This community is seeing Jesus at work through the Christ-filled doctors, nurses, teachers, and church members who help, equip, teach, and love them. They are a witness of God's love and healing in this neighborhood.
Although they have few resources, the MB Church in Congo is actively engaging with those who are hurting and are in need of the love of Christ. Their desire to see transformation in this community and the lives of the people who live here has also led them beyond health into other avenues of service. Vocational skill training is empowering women to overcome oppression and a literacy program for children to learn how to read is providing unschooled children with educational opportunities.
A new building for the clinic is being constructed, which will include a radiation unit and a maternity ward. The goal is to see this project become completely self-sustaining over the next few years.
