We are now collecting urgent relief funds for: Thailand Flood Relief, Central Asia Disaster, Panama Flood Relief.

Many MB churches are located in places where poverty makes them more susceptible to natural disasters such as flood, fire and earthquake. Funds from this account are used to assist these churches and MB Conferences to rebuild their lives and serve their communities following such disasters.

Thailand Flood Relief

A relentless monsoon season has now left Thailand on the verge of a humanitarian disaster. Flooding and mudslides which initially developed along major waterways have now poured over into Bangkok and other major cities throughout the country. 8.2 million people have so far been affected by rising floodwaters which have inundated homes, Churches, factories and farms.

MB Mission teams in and around Bangkok have seen their poor congregations hit hard by this disaster. In Chachoengsao, Louise Sinclair-Peters reports “many of our believers are exhausted from the daily struggle to live above the water. Our deepest concern right now is that their toilets are under water and they have no clean water. Garbage and sewage all get thrown out the window. We are afraid of disease.”

At the same time, she testifies that believers are moving forward with faith and joy in the midst of their circumstances: “Since the fish are plentiful and flow right under their beds, they laugh and praise God for his provision! They don’t even have to leave their house to get the evening meal. They just hang their fishing rod off the end of the bed!

MB Mission has committed to work alongside these Thai believers to reach their community and rebuild their lives. This effort will involve the immediate provision of staple foods and clean water, followed by a a coordinated effort to clean up and repair people’s homes. As the waters recede national MB church plants and leaders will continue to identify opportunities to support the rebuilding.
