Panama Team
When four TREKers went to serve the Wounaan people, an indigenous tribe in Maje, Panama, they went to build latrines. Not only did this project give them the opportunity to make inroads into the tribe, but it also enabled them to build a relationship and share God’s love with someone from their own culture – a Peace Corps worker named Jacob.Jacob was working in Maje as the Engineer of Social Work, teaching the TREKers how to build latrines. As they got talking about what brought them to Panama, the TREKers learned that they weren’t the only ones who were there for spiritual reasons.
Jacob has a strong belief that God, truth, and spirituality are found among the poor – one of the reasons he went to Panama. He is very interested in indigenous spirituality, traditions, and practices, and whether or not they accurately represent who God is. He grew up in a Catholic household but he disagrees with the church. He gets angry when people say that Jesus is the only way to God.
Full time missionary Einer Zuluaga loved serving Jacob and being a light in his life. He was constantly inviting him out to do activities – to eat with him, sleep in his home, and simply care for him. Just before the TREKers left Panama, Einer challenged Jacob to take part in a one year discipleship term with him and his wife, Girsela.
Throughout their time in Panama, the TREK team felt called to pray for Jacob. Team leader, Chris, is confident that God is going to transform Jacob’s life: “When Jacob comes to know Christ, he will be an excellent missionary, no doubt about it. I'm pretty confident he is born to live in the jungle!”
Join with Chris and the other TREKers in praying for Jacob’s heart. Pray that he would realize the true way to God is through Jesus Christ!
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
