"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." 2 Corinthians 3:17
Winter TREKers to Lima, Peru saw the truth of this verse come alive despite the enemy’s attempt to take away a spirit of worship amongst the Peruvian people.
This is a verse that the group of six claimed and proclaimed over different churches, youth groups, pastors, and people during their three-and-a-half months of service. Both churches where they ministered were challenged with restrictions in worship, but as the people of God sang praises to the Lord, they learned that where the Lord is, there is freedom, and the spirit of God is a flame that is not easily put out.
In Lima, where the group spent a majority of their time doing ministry, neighbors began to complain about the noise level coming from church during the worship service. The police were notified and the church was prohibited from using microphones during worship.
Around the same time, TREKers travelled to the north of Peru in Trujillo to spend four days ministering at Lima’s sister church. Before they arrived, all of the microphones, music equipment, and instruments had been stolen. All they had to worship God with was their voices. But that was all they needed! As TREKer Breanne stood in the sanctuary singing on the worship team, she knew that as the group of believers gathered to sing, they were heard. As their voices resonated throughout the church and their praises rose to the Lord, she was confident that microphones and musical instruments made no difference.
Though satan had plans to take their worship away, all they needed was a heart of praise. When they proclaimed the truth of God, a spirit of freedom would be sent out over Peru.
